Syllable Name Game
FSF - Phonemic Awareness Segment and Blend Syllables
The purpose of this activity is to increase awareness of syllables in words by segmenting and blending names. Since children love to use their own names, the student will practice the procedure for this activity by segmenting and blending his or her own name before moving to other names.
Warm Up

Names can be divided into parts. Listen to this name: "Susan." It can be divided into two parts: "Su-san."

Watch me clap the parts of the name "Susan." "Su" (clap), "san" (clap). Put it together: "Susan."

Let's try "Roberto." "Ro-bert-o." three parts. Watch me clap: "Ro" (clap), "bert" (clap), "o" (clap). Put it together: "Roberto."

Now let's try your name: (say student's name). Say it in parts and clap with me (clap syllables). Put it together: (say student's name).
If Correct: Good job. Let's practice with one more name.

If Incorrect: Listen and watch me. I'm going to say your name in parts and clap once for each part.

Say each syllable slowly while clapping.

Think of a person's name. What name are you thinking of? Say the name in parts while clapping each part.
