Ralphie Rime
Warm Up
We are going to teach Ralphie, the puppet, to
say words correctly. Ralphie has a funny way of talking. He says
words in two parts: first the beginning sound, then the rest of the
word.
Our job is to help Ralphie learn how to pronounce words correctly. When Ralphie speaks, I want you to listen to both parts and then put them together. Listen to how he says this word: /b/.../ee/. And when we put the two sounds together, we say them without a pause: /b//ee/ becomes bee. Ralphie was trying to say the word "bee."
Let's try to do one together. What
word is Ralphie trying to say when he says /s/.../ip/? First we
say /s//ip/ like Ralphie, then we put it together: "sip."
If Correct: Fantastic. Ralphie
was trying to say the word "sip." Let's practice another one.
If Incorrect: Try it again with me: /s/…/ip/, sip.
Now what if Ralphie said /k/.../at/?
What word would he be trying to say?
If Correct: Great. Let's try
some more words.
If Incorrect: Say the first sound for me. And what's the second part? Now say them together, really fast.
